This short biographical piece that I wrote about Baroness Mary Vetsera for Women's History Network has been published and can be read HERE.
While I didn’t have much word count to work with, I hope it gives you a different view of the young Baroness, and perhaps an insight into the questions that guide my research - Who was Mary really? Why is she only seen for her death alongside Crown Prince Rudolf? Why are sources from her own hand ignored? And why does the critique fall upon Mary for her supposed promiscuity and stupidity for agreeing to die alongside Rudolf, instead of the fact a 30-year-old man groomed a 17-year-old girl and then killed her?
